Getting an eye exam does not have to be a stressful trip to the doctor. Many people feel that if they fail, then they are going to have to wear glasses or contacts. The truth of the matter is that glasses or contacts may be just the thing to enrich your life and increase the overall quality of your life. The optometrist is going to have your best interest at heart, and they will do everything in their power to help you see properly. There are a few things that you will most likely have to go through when you go through an eye exam. This article is going to tell you a few things to expect so you do not have as much anxiety. Here are a few of the tests that they may run you through.

Snellen Chart

You can be absolutely certain that the doctor is going to have you look at a Snellen Chart. This chart is probably the most famous eye exam that is around. There are letters that go from big at the top to very small at the bottom. The doctor is going to have you start reading lines from the chart. The doctor may ask you to read them with both eyes open or one eye at a time shut. This is going to give the doctor a pretty good idea as to where your vision is at currently.

Lenses

You may also have to go through a test where the doctor is going to put a few different lenses in front of your eyes and ask which looks better. This test can be difficult because sometimes it seems that there is no difference, or that they are both fairly bad. The thing to remember about this test is that it is for your own good. You want to do the very best that you can, and always be honest. This will go a long way in helping the eye doctor see what they need to do for your eyes.

Eye Health

One of the last things that the doctor is going to do is check the overall health of your eye. If you do not have healthy eyes, it does not matter how good your sight is. The doctor is going to take pictures of different portions of the eye and make sure that there is enough blood flowing through. Once the doctor knows that your eyes are healthy, they will start to tell you what to do about your eyesight.
